Snow Shine

Walter was a huge hit on Mt. Spokane the other day. I had a last minute afternoon desire to wander around in the snow with my favorite little buddy at our favorite mountain spot. Weather in town has sort of sucked recently but the mountains have had tons of snow. We did not walk too far, about 4 miles but it was a good work out. We hiked from the snowmobile parking lot up to the picnic area on the main snowmobile road (only saw 3 snowmobiles which was good). We met some folks at the picnic shelter who were quite taken with Walter. They had never seen a dog wearing pants before and had to take his picture. After we had our Scooby snacks we headed down 135 back to the parking lot. The day was nice and sunny and very cold. Walter seems most of the time to be an eternal puppy. He gets so excited when he sees my yellow backpack and when we start hiking he just goes ape shit and dances and jumps around. He is quite amazing for almost 9 years old. I love it when we are driving home and he sleeps so sound that I can hear him snoring from the back seat.
Our adventures are going to take a bit of a break due to real life. I found out yesterday that I have a something on one of my ovaries so on March 7 I am getting the whole shit n' caboodle pulled out. My family history for cancer is very grim, but my doctor said the ultrasound images do not look like what he generally sees with cancer (though he was quite fascinated with my cancer genealogy and had to make a copy of it). I keep trying to stick to that sentence. When I do start to worry I tell myself, "Hell, Aunt Helen had ovarian, colon and breast cancer and she is still kicking at 95!!!!" Anyway, I am going to miss 3-4 weeks of work and I doubt that even with the time off I will be able to do much in the form of recreating. But then again, perhaps it would be good to recuperate in a cabin in the woods snuggled up with my buddy Walter. That just might be the sort of rest I will need.........

This meadowy area is one of my top favorite spots on the entire mountain.
