Recovery

It has been seven weeks since my surgery and I am feeling pretty good (except for the sore knees from my hike yesterday). Walter is doing well, too. It has taken me a long time to get back into doing things. Here are a few of those things...

Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area: Grand Coulee Dam created a massive lake. Three weeks post surgery Walter and I drove over and checked out part of the lake, some campgrounds and boat launches. I did a little walking around at Porcupine Bay and Fort Spokane but not very much. One of my plans for the summer is a couple night canoe trip on the lake. There are lots of places to camp on the shore. Currently the water in the lake is really low to allow for snow melt in the mountains. The pool is usually full by July so it will be a late summer trip.

Porcupine Bay

Old oven at Ft. Spokane. Probably used by the Chinese cooks.

Ouch

Hawk Creek waterfall. When the water is up most of the waterfall is gone.

Miller Ranch/Fishtrap: One of my favorite early season places to hike. Wide open spaces, lots of early season plants, and solitude. This was my first hike taking both boys by myself. They did great. A good time was had by all.

Cute poodle boys

First buttercups

The lovely lake

Cool volcanic rock spot

Unlucky ungulate

Hog Canyon: The trailhead is across the road from one of the Fishtrap Lake trailheads. Nancy and I spent the day there. It was a typical spring day with sunshine, rain, hail, etc.

Hog Lake

Old ranch

Iller Creek: beautiful urban hike up a ravine to a ridge that looks over Spokane and the Palouse. We did the loop hike and my knees were screaming on the way down. Way cool rocks at the top that are the size of houses.
